My aim as a counselling psychologist is to create a safe space where clients can speak candidly about their concerns and gain the necessary tools to overcome barriers to their personal growth. My style is genuine, compassionate and collaborative. I believe that clients are the best experts on their lives and that effective therapy involves a process of skill building and (re) orienting to one’s existing strengths. I am proficient at treating individuals experiencing issues related to Anxiety, Depression, Sleep Concerns, School and Occupational Stress, Caregiver Burnout, Boundaries and Communication, as well as Difficulties Adjusting to Life Transitions and Illness. I possess an expertise in the field of trauma and commonly treat Survivors of Abuse and/or Assault, and those struggling with unhealthy relationship patterns. I utilize a wide array of modalities and techniques in my sessions, some of which include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness, Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Sensorimotor Processing Psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

As a Registered Provisional Psychologist and a Canadian Certified Counsellor, I believe every client has the wisdom and resilience they need to live meaningful and fulfilled lives, including healthy, vibrant relationships. I work predominantly with couples to explore and understand the beliefs that guide them individually and within the couple. I see my role as a supportive scaffold, which stands strong to enable my clients to embrace the vulnerability needed to heal both personally and within their relationship. Each client’s journey is informed by their mind and body; I incorporate information from these as we navigate the therapy process. In therapy I focus on issues of existence, including growth towards self-awareness and self-acceptance, and meaningful behavioural change.

I am currently finalizing my doctorate degree at McGill University, after completing my master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Alberta. I have trained and taught about therapy at world-class universities across Canada and the United States, and am committed to publishing research that moves therapy forward. I am working towards becoming a registered psychologist under the supervision of Laura Kennedy.

In my work, I support couples in developing healthy communication patterns to foster their relationship and move towards true intimacy. I encourage partners to embrace the various components of their journey to achieve their goals, both individually and as a couple. I believe that acceptance and awareness of the self are essential ingredients in a thriving couple.

Additionally, I also work with individuals - I specialize in treating trauma and issues pertaining to life transition.

Dr. Janet Trieu obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta. After a number of years in the insurance industry, she proceeded to complete her 4-year doctorate program at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver, BC.

She firmly believes in the principles of naturopathic medicine, as she strives to treat the whole person in the least invasive way possible, believing in the healing power of nature and treating the root cause instead of simply palliating the symptoms.

Dr.Trieu believes that every family deserves to have the skills, tools and knowledge to help treat a variety of ailments naturally and effectively. While in naturopathic medical school, Dr. Trieu had her two children. Becoming a mother is where she learned how important it was to have safe, natural alternatives for common ailments which help lay the foundation to optimal health for the rest of their lives. The body simply needs a bit of guidance to get back into a state of health, and that’s where naturopathic medicine can shine. Dr. Trieu’s goal is to help educate her community about natural medicine so that everyone can have the opportunity to feel empowered to reach the best version of themselves.
